Spring into FUN because Winter is done!
Spring into FUN with Toysmith! Spring is the season of renewal and rebirth. Encouraging children to participate in something as simple as gardening is one way Toysmith believes in fostering confidence and skills while having fun. We at Toysmith strive to inspire kids to learn about the world around them through play and this blog is a way for us to share that philosophy with you.
Spring is the perfect season to inspire wonder as the world wakes up from winter sleep. Whether it’s welcoming feathered friends with a new birdfeeder in the backyard or growing an herb garden with grandma on a windowsill, connecting with nature encourages kids to learn and grow in many ways. As they tend and watch the garden grow they’ll reap the rewards of yummy edibles, too. Parents plant healthier eating habits while their kids experience hands-on where food comes from.
Spring is also the time to plant seeds in soil, to nurture them to grow big and strong, much like raising children. Cultivate thoughtfulness with anticipation by planting all sorts of things for them to look forward to like flowers, fruits and vegetables. From developing patience to understanding process, gardening is an excellent way to productively engage young minds. So put away the snow shovel and pull out the garden trowel, it’s time to get a little dirty!
Start your garden with clearing out last winter’s doldrums to make room for spring-filled fun. Have a weed pulling party with the whole family and make a game of it. Getting dirty on purpose, how could that not be fun? Kid-sized totes with tools are perfect for smaller hands and will get them into gardening mode. It helps to look the part to play the part! How about a wee-sized wheelbarrow for hauling all sorts of gardening goodies? Can you dig it? We sure do!
As it starts to grow welcome new spring seedlings and garden guests. Can you dig it? We sure do! Add splashes of color with a paintable garden stone or catch spring breezes on a giant pinwheel kit. When the flowers have bloomed, collect them with the flower press. The preserved petals will make wonderful card accents to remind you of spring during cooler months.
Still chilly outside? Don’t have a backyard? Take it underground and get to the root of the matter with a root viewer kit for a close up look at gardening in action as the veggies grow up and out. Or make it micro with a terrarium filled with smaller plants and soft moss. Place both projects near a sunlit window. And don’t forget to sprinkle a little magic with a delightfully fun fairy garden!
